10 January 2025 – The South African U17 Women’s National Team (Bantwana) will begin the 2025 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Saturday, 11 January 2025, when they face Gabon in an away first leg match in Franceville.

This match will be played at Stade De La Renovation in Franceville, Gabon.

South Africa Coach Ntomifuthi Khumalo has emphasised the importance of getting a win away from home to kick off their campaign. Bantwana last qualified for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in 2018 and will be looking for an improved performance this year. They  were knockout by Ethiopia in the first round in the last edition of World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking to www.safa.net, Khumalo said her players will need to stay focused and disciplined during the match. “We create many chances as you may have seen during the 2024 COSAFA Championships, but if we do not convert we can’t win the match.

“We want to leave Gabon with the advantage, so we have to give a good account of ourselves today,” said Khumalo.

South African Football: Bafana Bafana continues to inspire young athletes across the nation.
