Kromme River: Man Missing

Louwrens Bezuidenhout, NSRI St Francis Bay deputy station commander, said: Police K9 Search and Rescue – WPDS (Water Policing and Diving Service) – are continuing in ongoing search efforts for a man missing in the Kromme River, St Francis Bay.

At 12h31, Thursday, 1 October, NSRI St Francis Bay and NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crews were activated following reports of a drowning in progress in the Kromme River, near to the Kromme River Mouth, St Francis Bay.

NSRI rescue swimmers, from both NSRI stations, REMS (Rapid Emergency Medical Service), and the SA Police Service responded.

NSRI St Francis Bay crew, nearby at the time on a private boat, and an NSRI Jeffreys Bay jet-ski rescue craft, responded.

Kouga Fire and Rescue Services responded and local marine dredging contractors assisted on the scene with their boat.

On arrival on the scene a search commenced for a 25 year old male, from Mozambique, who had gone missing while taking a swim in the river.

Despite an extensive. river, sea and shoreline search there remains no signs of the missing man who was reported to have disappeared under water after appearing to get into difficulties while swimming.

Thoughts and care are with the family, friends and colleagues, of the missing man in this difficult time.

Police have opened an investigation.
