The lack of decisive consequences for water polluters in Gauteng fosters a culture of impunity and renders environmental regulations ineffective.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) strongly criticised the Department of Environmental Affairs today for failing to take decisive action against pollution to preserve the province’s water resources.

Municipalities and industries relentlessly pollute scarce water resources, which are a national priority, with seemingly no repercussions. This situation, combined with a lack of provincial legislation to address the crisis, threatens the province’s survival.

In addition, development continues without adequate environmental studies, killing nature and bees (pollinators) essential to the ecosystem.

The Freedom Front Plus believes that ignoring environmental decline will ultimately lead to an unsustainable existence, endangering current and future generations’ quality of life.

Striking a balance and maintaining harmony between human development and nature are not optional, but essential for survival.

Gauteng urgently needs action to stop pollution and protect the environment.
