Laycock Makes History

14 October 2026 by Guest

Kaneez Tuskers’ Chad Laycock etched his name into the history books with a remarkable six-wicket haul against Momentum Multiply Titans in the YesPlay Pro20 Cup on Tuesday, recording figures of 6/26 in a record-breaking bowling performance.

Laycock became the first bowler to claim four wickets in four consecutive deliveries and the first to take five wickets in a single over in South African T20 cricket.

His figures also set a new competition record, surpassing the previous best of 6/29 recorded by Beuran Hendricks in 2014.

After electing to bowl first in Pietermaritzburg, Tuskers initially struggled to contain the Titans, who raced to a 112-run opening partnership through Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Sinethemba Qeshile.

Laycock provided the breakthrough, dismissing Pretorius for a blistering 81 off 36 balls.

Qeshile followed three overs later for 46, while Dewald Brevis added 33 before falling to Bamanye Xenxe.

However, it was the 19th over that belonged to Laycock.

He dismissed Leus du Plooy before removing Dayyaan Galiem, Aphiwe Mnyanda, Janco Smit and Esosa Aihevba in four consecutive deliveries, bringing the Titans’ innings to a dramatic close at 204.

In reply, Michael Erlank led the Tuskers’ chase with 56, supported by Jack Lees’ 34 and an unbeaten 31 from Laycock.

Despite their efforts, the hosts finished on 183/6, falling 21 runs short as the Titans extended their unbeaten run to six matches and strengthened their position at the top of Pool A.

Elsewhere, Northern Cape Heat recorded their first victory of the competition, defeating Wenbro Impalas by 14 runs in a rain-affected encounter at Kimberley Oval.

Batting first at home, Heat posted 171/6, with Steve Stolk leading the charge with an impressive 89, supported by Liam Doherty’s 39.

The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method reduced the Impalas’ revised chase to just over eight overs.

They managed 65/4, leaving them as the only Pool B side yet to register a victory.

In Potchefstroom, Hollywoodbets Dolphins maintained their position at the top of Pool B with a convincing seven-wicket win over North West Dragons.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Dragons posted 144/5, with Diego Rosier contributing 45 and Wihan Lubbe adding 35.

Media Release 1 Bryce Parsons anchored the Dolphins’ response with a composed 60, while Jason Smith struck an unbeaten half-century to guide the visitors to victory.

The Dolphins reached their target in just 16 overs, losing only three wickets in the process.

DP World Lions also secured a hard-fought victory, edging Eastern Cape Iinyathi by five runs at DP World Wanderers Stadium to claim their third win in five matches.

Batting first after being sent in, the Lions posted 138 in their 20 overs, with Rassie van der Dussen top-scoring with 44 off 32 balls and Richard Seletswane contributing 24.

Iinyathi’s chase suffered an early setback with the dismissal of Nathan Roux, but Christiaan du Toit and Jason Niemand revived their hopes with an 82-run second-wicket partnership.

The Lions regained control with a crucial cluster of wickets, as du Toit, Michael Copeland and Niemand fell for the addition of just five runs.

Iinyathi ultimately finished on 133/6, narrowly missing out on an upset.

The YesPlay Pro20 Cup continues on Wednesday with two fixtures.

Flexbrands Knights host World Sports Betting Eastern Storm in Bloemfontein, while YesPlay Cobras welcome Dafabet Boland in Cape Town.

The highest number of runs scored in an over is not 36. It’s 77.

Women had been playing cricket as far back as the 1700s. Villages in Surrey, Sussex, and Hampshire held their own local and inter-village tournaments. Prizes for the games included lace gloves and barrels of ale.
