The Lighting Warehouse is renowned as South Africa’s foremost independent lighting retailer. With a comprehensive selection of high-quality lighting products sourced from both local and global suppliers, they offer an extensive range to cater to diverse needs. The company prides itself on delivering excellent value for money, ensuring that customers receive top-quality lighting solutions at competitive prices. Providing exceptional service is a top priority for The Lighting Warehouse, as their knowledgeable sales staff are dedicated to offering expert advice and assistance to meet all lighting requirements. With their commitment to customer satisfaction, The Lighting Warehouse strives to illuminate every aspect of your world.

The History of The Lighting Warehouse

It all began in John Davidson’s late teens when he began to earn extra pocket money by manufacturing ‘tiffany’ lampshades with his mother. After marrying his childhood sweetheart Vanessa in 1971, John gained invaluable experience in advertising and fabric sales which helped him in later years. In 1973 the two travelled to London where John worked in a lampshade factory and on their return to South Africa in 1974 he began his own business.

The business started in Fox Street Johannesburg in 2 rooms with 2 employees and only 1 customer! It eventually grew into Champagne Lighting, a leading manufacturing and wholesaling business of lampshades, table lamps and light fittings. After 20 years of triumphs and failures but more importantly invaluable business experience, he launched The Lighting Warehouse. The concept of selling lighting off the floor in a ‘no frills’ warehouse environment was born.

Champagne Lighting was sold a few years later because of the tremendous growth of The Lighting Warehouse and the attention it deserved. From the days of a small 200m² showroom in Wynberg to 1500m² of prime retail space in the heart of Fourways, the business has always been a family concern. This growth continued after John’s tragic passing in January 2003 with his wife, son, daughter, nephew and staff who are also considered family members, maintaining the drive to light up every home in South Africa.
