Leisure Isle: Teenager Rescued

3 January 2026 by Guest

Jerome Simonis, NSRI Knysna station commander, said: At 11h17, Thursday, 1 January, NSRI Knysna duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from NSRI Knysna lifeguards at Leisure Isle, Knysna, reporting CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts in progress on an adult male that the NSRI Knysna lifeguards had rescued from the water.

NSRI Knysna medical crew and ER24 ambulance services responded.

NSRI Knysna medics arriving on the scene assisted the NSRI Knysna lifeguards conducting CPR on the 13 year old male and during CPR efforts a pulse was restored.

ER24 paramedics took over care of the teenager who was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition by ER24 ambulance.

The teenager, believed to be a local, appears to have suffered a medical condition while swimming. Lifeguards noticed the teenager appearing to be in distress in the water and they immediately raised the alarm while responding and they rescued the teenager to the shore where they commenced with CPR.

The NSRI Knysna lifeguards are commended for their swift efforts that contributed to the teenagers life being saved.
