LGE 2026 Proclaimed

ActionSA welcomes the proclamation by the COGTA minister of 4 November as the election date, and re-iterates its readiness to contest the 2026 LGE and repair South Africa’s broken municipalities. The party stands ready for these elections, having focused its efforts into a long-term ground campaign that began soon after the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.

ActionSA will contest just under 60 municipalities this year, with over 2000 wards, representing a marked increase from the 6 contested in 2021. This expanded contestation comes after a period of dramatic growth since the 2024 National and Provincial Elections, with ActionSA’s footprint having grown into municipalities in outside of Gauteng where breakthroughs are not expected.

The narrative that ActionSA is a “Gauteng party” will be shattered in November. Of note ActionSA structures and leaders have taken root in places like Greater Tzaneen in Limpopo and the Central Karoo in the Western Cape’s Garden Route, along with many other examples, where the party anticipates major breakthroughs.

ActionSA presents mayoral candidates with a track record of fixing South Africa’s troubled metros, such as Herman Mashaba in Johannesburg and Nasiphi Moya in Tshwane. It also presents outsiders who are ready to unseat failed career politicians, such as Dereleen James in Cape Town and Xolani Khumalo in Ekurhuleni. This message, that ActionSA can fix what others have broken, will be the centrepiece of the party’s election campaign at a time where South Africans are hiring those who can fix their broken municipalities.

The ActionSA candidates vying to lead wards have not been parachuted in. ActionSA consulted with its branches, and asked them to provide community-centred candidates they believed would best represent them. These are not candidates who have never stepped foot in the wards they seek to lead because local problems require local solutions, championed by local leaders.

The date of 4 November provides South Africans with an opportunity to sweep out corrupt and incompetent leaders who promise the same every five years. If South Africans vote the way they have always voted, they will suffer the way they have always suffered. Change can only arise from voters who break ties with old parties that have failed and make new choices.

ActionSA Key Pillar: Obsession with Rule of Law.
