Glasgow Warriors have secured the services of one of Scottish rugby’s brightest prospects on a new long-term contract.
Loose-head prop Nathan McBeth has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Scotstoun until the summer of 2027, subject to visa.
The 25-year-old, who qualifies for Scotland courtesy of his grandfather, enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2022/23. His performances earned him the Mackenzie Construction Most Improved Player of the Season prize at the club’s end-of-season Awards Dinner.
Having made his debut away to Benetton in November 2021, McBeth has gone on to make 26 appearances in Glasgow colours to date. So far, coming off the bench in both of the club’s 2023/24 fixtures.
The prop made four appearances for Scotland U20 in the 2018 U20 Six Nations. There lining up with future club-mates Ross Thompson and Murphy Walker, and scoring a try against Ireland.
McBeth also represented South Africa U20, starting in three matches at the 2018 World Rugby U20 Championship.
He played a key role in helping Glasgow Warriors to reach a first-ever European final. He made his first club start in the 40-26 away win over Perpignan in January 2023, and was a replacement in the final itself.
The loose-head – who recently became a father for the first time – is a keen fisherman away from rugby. He cites Springbok legend Os du Randt as a personal idol.
“It was a really easy decision for my family and I, to be honest,” McBeth told glasgowwarriors.org.
“To stay here in Glasgow around friends made it even easier, and to be able to play under Franco [Smith] and the coaches for the next few years is a fantastic opportunity for me.
“Franco definitely helped me find confidence in myself and my ability last season, and everything just clicked into place.
“Running out at Scotstoun for Family Day against Leinster was such a massive honour. To run out with Noah [McBeth’s new son] for his first time at the game, and winning as well – that’s a day that will live with me forever.
“Glasgow has become our home and I’m proud of that. It’s a proud city and a proud community. I want to give back to this club and this city as much as I can.”
Head Coach Franco Smith welcomed the news, adding: “Nathan is a young player who we believe has a great deal of potential. He has a bright future ahead of him.
“He comes to Scotstoun every day ready to work and keen to learn from those around him. We’ve been highly impressed with his development over the last couple of seasons.
“He has fully bought into everything that we are trying to build at this club and we’re excited to continue to see him develop not only as a player, but as a person.”

Although the Nelson is feared by some players, there is no solid evidence that it is actually inauspicious. Regardless, some people choose to take precautions. Umpire and former cricketer David Shepherd would lift one leg up when it is a bowler’s turn to run in to bowl and the score is at 111. Fans would cheer him on when he did this.
