  • NIVEA is taking another step on its sustainability journey with the improved recyclability of its products.
  • The relaunch is yet another demonstration of NIVEA’s more than 110-year legacy in skincare expertise – and marks a step towards more modern, consumer-friendly and future-ready packaging.

Fast-paced South African life requires us to not only look our best but to also feel our best, whether we’re studying, working, socialising, caring for family or participating in our favourite hobbies. These many aspects of South African life require us to be present and feel our finest. Confidence is something we find within ourselves, and healthy, nourished skin plays a key role.

Looking good can help us feel good
Healthy skin makes all the difference, which is why Beiersdorf is proud to announce NIVEA’s most ambitious relaunch yet, leaving your skin looking and feeling its best. This relaunch is far from being just skin-deep, as NIVEA product packaging now uses less plastic as part of its commitment to sustainability.

Confidence begins by feeling good
Backed by its 110-year legacy in skincare expertise, NIVEA has relaunched its iconic Rich Nourishing Body lotion and entire Body Lotion portfolio with an improved formula. Made with 100% pure Hyaluron and combined with Almond Oil and Deep Nourish Serum, the world’s no. 1 skincare brand allows skin to be nourished and moisturised for up to 72 hours. The water-binding properties leave your skin healthy, hydrated, and radiant, empowering you to experience the world with more self-assurance, courage, and comfort. Dry skin is now a thing of the past as NIVEA sets a new standard in the body care category.

“We are very proud that our formulas have once again reached the next level of superiority in NIVEA Body Care by incorporating the powerful moisturiser Hyaluronic Acid. One of the most amazing functions of Hyaluronic Acid is moisture retention. Just one gram of Hyaluronic Acid has the ability to bind one to ten litres of water, depending on the conditions,” says Dr Silke Garmatz, R&D Body Manager at NIVEA.

Sustainability should never just be ‘skin-deep’
When it’s good for the environment, it’s good for you. With this relaunch, NIVEA has not only enhanced its Body Lotion portfolio with an improved formula but also transformed its packaging. By using less plastic overall, increasing the share of PCR materials used, and reducing the overall CO2e footprint of its Body lotion packaging, NIVEA is taking a step to better its impact on the environment.

The contemporary packaging boasts 50% recycled plastic and increased recyclability (100% recyclable bottle with the cap disposed separately). These packaging changes will save more than 2,500 tonnes of virgin plastic, equivalent to 7% of Beiersdorf’s total target for fossil-based virgin plastic reduction by 2025. The changes will also help Beiersdorf reduce its CO2e impact by approximately 5,000 tonnes by 2025. This is equivalent to CO2e emissions from 2,129,748 litres of gasoline consumed.

“We have revamped our packaging with a more modern and convenient design – and we are also taking a great step on our ongoing sustainability journey,” says Dr Sabrina Steffen, Packaging Manager at NIVEA.

The topic of sustainability is complex, but NIVEA understands that customers expect products reflecting ethical and sustainable business practices that benefit both them and the planet. With design changes, such as bottles that stand on their heads, it becomes easier to use every last drop, enhancing consumer convenience. Alongside longer-lasting moisturisation, NIVEA continues to adapt and evolve to meet the expectations of modern consumers.

To bear witness to all the unnecessary suffering on the planet and make ourselves available to service – whatever that means for each of us. We go deep in our personal relationships in America, but we need to go deep in our public relationships as well. – Marianne Williamson

If the ad is bad people get turned off. That\’s 125 million potential viewers, so you just killed reach. But there\’s also a big potential payoff. I think it does pay off because you get a lot of traffic, a lot of free public relations(in media stories). It helps position themselves for the next round of financing. – Charlene Li

On the aspect of PR being more effective than a front page ad, the British business magnate and author, Richard Branson quotes, “Publicity is absolutely critical. A good PR story is infinitely more effective than a front-page ad.”
