The relevant authorities in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) are commended for their swift and targeted action, which led to the safe release of 73-year-old kidnapping victim Theresa Minnie.

Several suspects were also taken into custody during the subsequent operation. The success of this operation clearly proves that collaboration between various role-players is essential in the fight against organised crime.

The efforts of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Crime Intelligence in Port Elizabeth, the police’s Local Criminal Record Centre and a private security company, Magma Security and Investigations, deserve special mention.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) believes that their collaboration sends a loud and clear message to perpetrators: Criminality will not go unpunished.

The arrests, along with the confiscation of substantial amounts of cash, firearms and vehicles linked to kidnapping activities, serve as a strong and significant deterrent to would-be criminals.

This is a victory for law enforcement and offers hope to residents increasingly plagued by crime.

The Freedom Front Plus calls for justice to take its course, and for the perpetrators to be promptly and duly sentenced. The public’s faith in the justice system will only be restored if stringent sentences are imposed to reinforce the belief that criminals do not have the last say.

Furthermore, this incident highlights the urgent need to remain fully focused on curbing kidnappings in the Metro.

Too many incidents of this nature have occurred recently, both in NMBM and elsewhere in South Africa, and the Freedom Front Plus will keep urging authorities to be proactive and intensify crime prevention efforts.

Freedom Front Plus Coalition Politics: The party has participated in coalition governments at local and provincial levels.
