SEA RESCUE – Gauteng – Saturday, 13 January. Female missing in Rivonia suspected to have been swept away in flash floods. A man rescued after vehicle swept off low lying bridge:

NSRI are appealing to motorists and pedestrians not to attempt to proceed through flooded roadways and not to attempt to cross over bridges affected by swollen or flooded river ways.
On 12 January, at 20h05, NSRI Gauteng duty crew were activated to assist in a search, commenced by Police and the emergency services, for a female missing in Rivonia.
It appears that while a female was driving on Rivonia Road, near to Witkoppen Road, the vehicle she was travelling in was swept into The Sand River in flash floods.
The vehicle had been located but the sole occupant of the vehicle was missing and suspected to have been swept down river in the flash floods.
NSRI Gauteng crew joined the SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue, SARZA Search and Rescue and GEMS (Gauteng Emergency Medical Services) on the scene.
No signs of the female were located despite an extensive search.
On Saturday morning, at 07h00, NSRI Gauteng crew, SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue, SARZA Search and Rescue, GEMS (Gauteng Emergency Medical Services) and City of Johannesburg Fire and Rescue Services continued in an ongoing search in and along the banks of the Sand River.
After further flash floods were forecast the extensive search was suspended at around 15h00 and the ongoing search will resume on Sunday.
Thoughts are with the family of the missing female in this difficult time.
At 19h12, Wednesday, 10 January, NSRI Gauteng duty crew were activated following a request, by SARZA Search and Rescue, to attend and assist the emergency services at the Jukskei River, in the vicinity of Jukseidrif Road, Vlakfontein, Centurion, where a local man was trapped on the river after his vehicle, that he was travelling in, was swept off a low lying bridge into the river.
The man had managed to escape the vehicle and he was trapped on a rock bed with fast flowing water around him.
The SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue, SARZA Search and Rescue, ER24 ambulance services and GEMS (Gauteng Emergency Medical Services) were in attendance.
3 attempts were made to reach the casualty and in a 4th attempt NSRI swift water rescue swimmers reached the casualty securing him into a life-jacket.
Using safety ropes, anchor points, that had been established on the river bank, and throw lines, the man was waded to safety, in cooperation with NSRI swift water rescue swimmers and Police divers.
The man was assessed by paramedics and then transported to hospital by ER24 ambulance in a stable condition for further care and for observation for non-fatal drowning symptoms.
Arrangements will be made by the man to recover his vehicle.
The man recovered in hospital before being released.
The cooperation by all emergency services during these 2 operations is commended.

A minute or two later he and the barman hear it again and recede outside to seize a study. They see a lone figure running towards them screaming, he spots them and lets out a sob, DASH!!!!! HE\”S COMING!!!!!
The barkeep and the Englishman both scrutinize at the terrified bedraggled sight before them, and try to peaceful him down, but he\’s completely inconsolable. They give him water and finally manage to secure a synonym-1 out of him but he struggles free from their grasp and rush away screaming.
A few minutes later the same thing happens with a whole group of men running in and screaming, he\’s coming, he\’s coming the barkeep grabs hold of one of the men as he tries to sprint past the bar and tries to obtain information out of him, again no response other than terrified gibberish.
The barkeep and his customer are starting to procure worried, they start to pack up before another group of horrified natives rush up to the bar most of them flee but one tries to veil behind the bar, the barkeep pulls out a shotgun and points it at the terrified man\’s face, finally managing to coax some words out of him. \”He\’s coming for us, Vernon Koekemoer is coming for us, we acquire to veil!!! We maintain to obtain out of here.\” He gets up and tries to race but the barkeep grabs him, feeling trapped in a panic he grabs the barkeeps shotgun and blows his own head off. The Englishman and the barkeep survey at each other starting to really panic now.
They study out of the window and off in the distance they see a tornado coming towards the bar, at the bottom of the tornado they see the hugest beast of a man they believe ever seen, as he gets closer they spot that he is riding a rhinocerous and using a crocodile as a riding whip, with each smack of the crocodile across the back of the rhino the louder is screams and the faster it runs, the tornado following it getting ever larger.
The 2 study at each other and start to fortify their position, they\’ve got a gun and they\’re waaay to drunk to dash, so they start piling bar stool and tables and anything they can acquire their hands on to manufacture sure they\’ll be safe when he arrives. They\’re not gonna design it, they can see the man slowing down his rhino, by now the crocodile is nothing but reptile glue on the bruised rump of the half dead rhino, the rhino drops down dead from exhaustion and crashes to the ground accurate outside the bar the tornado loses it\’s last breath in a cloud of dust as the huge man crashes his way through the produce shift barricade and charges up towards the bar where the 2 men believe taken shelter, he grabs a bottle of the hardest liquor on the shelf and down the entire litre in 1 gulp, he peers over the bar sobbing and sees the 2 defenders cowering down behind the crates of beer, they inspect up at the mans\’ face and he stares at them with a scrutinize of complete and utter hopelessness, he stares at them for a half second and half screams, half sobs, \”Oh my god what are you still doing here!!! WE MAINTAIN TO ACQUIRE OUT OF HERE NOW!!!! Vernon Koekemoer is coming!!!!\”
