The May 2026 Outlook
Data from the first full week of April shows that while under-recoveries have “improved” from their early-month peaks (which were projecting a R17/L diesel hike), the numbers remain catastrophic.
| Fuel type | Current April price (inland) | Est. May increase* | Potential May price |
| Petrol 95 | R23.36 | +R3.63 to +R6.63 | R26.99 – R29.99 |
| Petrol 93 | R23.25 | +R3.25 to +R6.25 | R26.50 – R29.50 |
| Diesel 0.005% | R26.11 | +R10.84 | R36.95 |
Crucial Factor: The R3.00 “relief” reduction in the General Fuel Levy is currently set to expire on May 5, 2026. If the National Treasury does not extend this, you must add an automatic R3.00/L on top of the already high under-recovery figures shown above.

Black Mustard
Bunny Chow. This is a traditional South African Indian dish and usually consists of curry served in a hollowed-out half-loaf of unsliced white bread. It’s best when the bread is soft and fresh and the curry is extra spicy.
