Over Double the Limit Reading for Early Morning Yellow Porsche Driver

26 May 2025 by Guest

The City’s enforcement agencies arrested 235 suspects and issued 45 843 fines during weekly patrols. Early this morning, traffic officers arrested the driver of a Porsche at an accident scene. His breathalyser reading was more than twice the legal limit.

Traffic officers attended to a motor vehicle accident between a Porsche and a minibus taxi on FW de Klerk Boulevard outbound after Marine Drive in the CBD before 08:00. Officers arrested the driver of the yellow Porsche for driving under the influence of alcohol with a reading of 0,52 which equates to more than twice the legal limit. The legal limit is 0,24mg/1000ml.

‘This is but the latest incident involving luxury sports cars in recent months, and certainly not a good start to the week. The fact that the driver was arrested early in the morning and with an alcohol reading of more than double the legal limit makes this offence even more alarming. The motor vehicle accident could have had serious consequences with innocent passengers sustaining injuries. Our enforcement agencies will not tolerate lawlessness and will continue to arrest suspects who break the law. We all have a responsibility to contribute towards a safer road environment,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

The driver of this Yellow Porsche was found to be double the alcohol limit – IN THE MORNING!

In the past week, traffic officers recorded 36 351 offences, executed 1 251 warrants of arrest and impounded 179 public transport vehicles.

  • Officers also made 26 arrests – 23 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • Metro Police officers arrested 50 suspects and issued 2 477 fines.
  • In Hanover Park, at the weekend, officers collared a 23-year-old suspect, thanks to ShotSpotter.
  • Officers on patrol on Saturday were alerted to multiple shots fired – they responded, and saw the suspect running away. He was found with a 9mm pistol sans serial number, and 11 rounds of ammunition.
  • Law enforcement officers arrested 159 suspects and issued 7 021 fines during weekly patrols.

The Public Emergency Communication Centre recorded 1 632 calls this weekend, of which 110 were assault-related cases and 53 motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.

Residents are reminded to report any criminal activity or emergency by contacting the PECC on 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
