ActionSA in Ekurhuleni is deeply disturbed by the shooting incident in Katlehong that has left four people dead, and others injured. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.

We note reports that a suspect has handed himself over to police. We welcome this development and insist that the investigation must be thorough, transparent, and without political interference.

Gun ownership is not a license for irresponsibility. A firearm can never be used to settle scores, intimidate communities, or solve political differences. This incident is a stark reminder of the culture of lawlessness and violence that has taken hold in our city.

As ActionSA, we are unambiguous: we are a party of political tolerance. We condemn violence in all its forms, whether criminal or political. There is no place in a democratic society for guns to be used as instruments of fear.

We call on SAPS to ensure that the perpetrator of this heinous act faces the full might of the law. Justice must be swift and must serve as a deterrent that no one is above the law.

Our city has bled enough.
