27 August 2026 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has noted with concern the attempts to derail and undermine the coming SAFA Elective Congress.
The SAFA Elective Congress will be held on 12 September 2026, and preparations are going full steam ahead. The calculated attempts to derail the Elective Congress and cast aspersions about the processes will not succeed.
The nominations for various positions that will be contested at the Elective Congress next month were handed over to the Governance Committee by SAFA on 5 August 2026. SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao handed over the files to Governance Committee members Victor Mogajane (chairman), Tumi Dlamini, Abel Ramolotja, Shakespeare Hadebe and Anzel Laubscher at SAFA House in the presence of members of the media.
The Governance Committee, which is an independent body, was tasked with dealing with any issues around the candidates, and checking whether they meet the criteria for nomination in terms of the SAFA statutes.
The Governance Committee will return to SAFA House to hand over the final list of the nominees. What is surprising is that the people that are attempting to undermine the processes and calling for the elections to be postponed voiced their own intentions to contest in the very same elections months ago.
The voting members on 12 September 2026 will be the regions, the Premier Soccer League as the Special Member and Associate Members. SAFA has invited various stakeholders to the Elective Congress, including FIFA, CAF, COSAFA, SASCOC, Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, the chairman of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture and legends of the game, among others.
SAFA is looking forward to the Elective Congress and the continuation of the Association’s mandate to develop and serve football in this country.
