Public Protector Ruling Clears Minister Macpherson

13 January 2026 by Guest

Statement by Jan de Villiers MP – DA National Spokesperson:

The Democratic Alliance welcomes the Public Protector’s finding that Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, acted within the law and did not breach the Executive Ethics Code.

This decision confirms that the repeated allegations against him were unfounded.

Minister Macpherson has faced months of smear campaigns and politically motivated complaints, notably from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA, claiming misconduct in his oversight of the Independent Development Trust (IDT). These claims were amplified in the media despite a clear lack of evidence. The accusers have now been exposed as defenders of suspended IDT CEO Tebogo Malaka’s corruption.

The Public Protector’s report makes it clear: the Minister acted to uphold proper governance and accountability. The DA calls on all parties to respect this ruling and stop the baseless attacks.

South Africans are tired of political distractions. What matters to them is improving service delivery, creating jobs, and growing the economy so families can put food on the table. Political hostility and unsubstantiated allegations divert attention from the issues that truly affect people’s lives.

The DA supports Minister Macpherson as he continues to stabilise and reform the IDT and deliver essential infrastructure to communities across South Africa. It is time to move past these attacks and focus on what truly counts: real service, good governance, and economic growth.
