Ramaphosa Fails to Release Water Crisis Action Plan

5 June 2026 by Guest

Statement by Stephen Moore MP – DA Spokesperson on Water and Sanitation:

Yesterday, the President missed the deadline to publicly release the National Water Crisis Action Plan.

Following the President’s repeated commitments, I submitted a PAIA application on 25 March 2026. The Presidency then requested a month extension to 04 May 2026, which expired yesterday.

South Africans continue to suffer in indignity, and I will today petition the Speaker of the National Assembly for a Debate of National Importance on the President’s failure to release the Crisis Plan for public scrutiny.

The President does not get to make false promises to South Africans over months without being held accountable. It is imperative that Parliament seeks the truth, as the rights of South Africans to water face peril.

It is Parliament’s duty to protect South Africans, who have been failed by the President on the water crisis. We must debate the lack of answers to the water crisis and offer credible, new solutions to end dry taps.

As the President also made a commitment on 12 March 2026, that the Action Plan would be complete by the end of March, I, on 1 April 2026, referred his commitment to Executive Undertakings & Petitions Committee. I have today also followed up with the Committee Chairperson on progress made for accountability.

The DA rejects the continued indignity of dry taps. Promises made must be kept, and the DA will fight for answers.
