Rescued Chokka Fisherman Recovering

10 August 2025 by Guest

Kristo Kritzinger, NSRI Jeffreys Bay station commander, said:

At 14h20, Thursday, 7 August, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew were alerted by NSRI St Francis Bay of a Chokka fishing vessel headed towards Jeffreys Bay with a local 54 year old male fisherman onboard suffering a medical condition.

Our NSRI duty crew responded to our NSRI Jeffreys Bay station 37 rescue base and launched the NSRI rescue craft Rescue 37 while Relay ambulance services were activated.

NSRI St Francis Bay remained on alert.

We rendezvoused with the fishing vessel offshore and the patient was transferred onto our NSRI rescue craft and brought to our NSRI rescue base where the patient was taken into the care of Relay paramedics.

In a serious but stable condition the patient was transported to hospital by Relay ambulance in the care of paramedics where he is recovering.
