A foreign sailing yacht assisted into the Port of Richards Bay.
Norman Rautenbach, NSRI Richards Bay station commander, said: A foreign sailing yacht Trimaran had alerted NSRI Richards Bay on Wednesday reporting that they were deep sea, approaching Richards Bay, expected to arrive on Friday, and suffering motor mechanical failure they would need assistance to get into the Port of Richards Bay on arrival.
At 07h26, Friday, 14 November, NSRI Richards Bay were alerted by the sailing vessel that they expected to be nearer to Richards Bay during the afternoon.
Making good headway the sailing vessel Trimaran, with 5 crew onboard, 4 British and 1 American, 3 females and 2 males, were nearing Richards Bay and at 14h00 we launched the NSRI rescue craft Ocean Guardian and rendezvoused with the Catamaran 15 nautical miles offshore of Richards Bay.
Under their own sail we escorted them into the Port of Richards Bay where we rafted alongside the sailing vessel and brought her safely to a mooring at the Zululand Yacht Club and no further assistance was required.
