17 July 2026 – Following the conclusion of the final FIFAe Nations League qualifying week on Thursday, 16 July 2026, South Africa has secured a spot as one of the eight elite African esports national teams heading to the LAN (offline or in-person) regional event in Casablanca, Morocco at the end of August 2026.
Out of 35 nations across three gaming titles, the South Africans have qualified as one of the three teams in the Rocket League while coming up short in eFootball console and mobile. The qualifying weeks are set up as the FIFAe Nations League 2026 and competition was through a league format played over three international windows where points gained over the qualifying weeks are added into the final week. These qualification weeks started in April following the traditional football calendar of international weeks across the world.
The Path to the World Cup
The FIFAe Continental Championships will make their global debut this season as the new regional stage on the Road to the FIFAe Finals 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. For the first time, national teams from across every continent will compete on regional soil in dedicated continental competition. This creates meaningful opportunities for a broader pool of nations to compete at the highest level while ensuring a fair and globally representative pathway to the pinnacle event. The top performers will become the first-ever FIFAe Continental Championship Winners and secure their place at the FIFAe Finals 2026.
Over the past months, teams from across your region have been competing in the FIFAe Nations League across eFootball™ Console, eFootball™ Mobile and Rocket League, the FIFAe Continental Championships will now bring together the region’s best. The upcoming LAN (LIVE or In-Person) event in Morocco serves as the ultimate gateway for the region’s elite players, or an equivalent of the traditional Africa Cup of Nations. South Africa will battle in a single round-robin group stage followed by a single-elimination bracket. The top two sides from this tournament will earn direct tickets to represent Africa at the prestigious FIFAe World Cup Finals 2026 in Saudi Arabia.

SAFA is incredibly proud of the boys who could be heading to their third FIFAe World Cup later this year. “We are encouraged by the continued growth of gaming and eSport in South Africa. SAFA is offering a diverse athlete talent opportunities and pathway to represent South Africa in a FIFA organised event for football enthusiasts who are talented in gaming. We have seen Bafana Bafana at the current 2026 FIFA World Cup and with Banyana Banyana now leaving for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as part of their efforts to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year, we are confident that the boys will do us proud in Morocco and make their third appearance at the FIFA showpiece in Riyadh in December,” said SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao

The most tries scored by a rugby player is 69 – Though Japan is yet to take the world cup, former player Daisuke Ohata holds the world record for most international tries with 69. He set the bar between 1996 and 2006 while playing on the wing and once scored eight tries in a single match. It’s going to be a long time before anyone beats that record!
