20 March 2026 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) and Adidas launched the 2026/2027 away jersey for both Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana at a festive event held in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Friday.

Fans descended on the Adidas Sandton store in numbers to catch a first glimpse of the striking green jersey at the event attended by SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, Vice-President Linda Zwane, CEO Lydia Monyepao, NEC member Job Mchunu, Banyana Banyana coach Dr Desiree Ellis, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, Bafana Bafana Africa Cup of Nations stalwart Eric Tinkler, former Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo, former and current South African senior men’s and women’s national team players, Standard Bank and Adidas officials, and SAFA staff.

The attendees immediately purchased the new jersey as soon as they saw it, saying that it was already an iconic representation of South Africa on the global stage. Fans around the country took to social media and said the new jersey was a hit and they wanted to own it as soon as possible. The 48 teams that have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July 2026, will all want to make a lasting visual impression when they step onto the stage for the first time during the global tournament.

SAFA and Adidas will no doubt be noticed when Bafana Bafana troop onto the pitch for the first time in either the home jersey, launched on 3 March 2026, or the away jersey launched today.

“We have a product that will stand out at the FIFA World Cup in a few months time and billions of viewers around the world will get a glimpse of an iconic design that captures the spirit of South African football,” SAFA President Dr Jordaan said.

“Adidas is an iconic brand and it is also a FIFA brand. Adidas has a long tradition with FIFA and their partnership with SAFA has already soared to great heights.”

Mexico will host Bafana Bafana in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 11, 2026, at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and this game will mark the start of the first 48-team tournament.

South Africa has made quite a record in the world of cricket. However, one record they have maintained for years is bringing the fastest bowlers in international cricket tournaments. When we talk about the fastest bowlers from South Africa, we cannot skip mentioning Allan Donald, popularly called the ‘White Lightning’ for his astonishing bowling speed. Additionally, cricket is one of the most played games in South Africa. That clearly shows that the country hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003.

The modern game was born at a school in Warwickshire – Rugby’s most widely accepted origin takes us back to 1839, where a Warwickshire Rugby School student, William Webb Ellis, came up with the game by picking up a regular football and charging at the opposing team’s goal. A formal set of rules would be made later that year. Also, another interesting fact about rugby for you – the Rugby World Cup trophy is called the William Webb Ellis trophy after the man who invented the game!
