27 October 2025 – The SAFA Gaming national Rocket League team is back in the FIFAe World Cup after qualifying from the FIFAe Regional Qualifiers out of 13 CAF members tournaments held from 24-26 October 2025.

The team is a six-member squad that was selected from the Comic-Con Africa 2025 and the Telkom VS Gaming 2025 between July and September 2025. The tournaments consisted of Gareth “Snowyy” Spiers, Breyden “Gunzinho” Keith, David “2DIE4” Morgenrood, reserves Joshua “Sweaty” Kleynhans, Amandla “N1tro” Dlamini and Umar “Werty” Rasool, who were the top six finishers at the final selection tournament.

In the first team, “Snowyy” and “2DIE4” are returning to the national side while the 18-year-old “Gunzinho” got his first cap at the opener against Senegal on Friday night. South Africa convincingly qualified by beating Seychelles in the quarterfinals and Egypt in the semi-finals on Sunday after finishing top of Group A. The team lost to Morocco in the finals, who finished as African champions and boasting some of the best paid players in the world. The FIFAe World Cup 2025 featuring Rocket League will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 15-19th December 2025, which is the pinnacle eSport tournament by FIFA. South Africa and Morocco will be the two African representatives at the global showpiece.

SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao congratulated the team. “We are immensely proud to have the Rocket League back at the FIFAe World Cup,” she said. “We are also delighted that they follow in the footsteps of their traditional football counterparts to qualify for their respective World Cups, which creates a wider scope for the youth to look at SAFA and it’s opportunities to represent the country at official FIFA tournaments.

“With this success we look to grow eSport and the SAFA gaming community so that we can cement a credible pathway for future digital athletes as part of our offering as a Federation. This also creates new heroes and role models for young boys and girls to consider gaming as part of their sports careers, thus creating further opportunities for SAFA to offer new audience to their sponsors. We wish them well in Saudi Arabia and know they will represent us well.”

Registration for the 2026 SAFA Gaming season will open on 1 December 2025 in search for national teams for eFootball and Rocket League. All details will be posted on

South African Football: The current head coach (as of 2023) is Hugo Broos.

The dubious honor of being called the worst Test batsman belongs to New Zealand’s Chris Martin. He has a poor batting average and only ever achieved double figures once. He was so bad that he even starred in an ad for Pulp Sport spoofing his (lack of) batting skills.
