21 June 2025 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) held an Ordinary NEC Meeting at SAFA House in the South of Johannesburg on Friday, 20 June 2025 where the Members engaged on several matters.

It was a marathon session that was eventually adjourned at 05h00 on Saturday morning, 21 June 2025 as the Members had several matters to engage and deal with.

“We started at 14h00 yesterday (Friday) as we had several matters to deal with. You know, Banyana Banyana is going to Morocco for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July 2025. The South African U17 men’s national team is going to the FIFA U17 World Cup to be held in Qatar from 3–27 November 2025. Our Under-20 men’s national team is going to the FIFA U20 World Cup to be held in Chile in September 2025,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan.

The Meeting also took into account the fact that Bafana Bafana have two crucial 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September and another two in October. “So, there were a lot of issues that we had to deal with. Also, there were certain administrative matters that we had to deal with. And fortunately, we had dealt with all those matters by 05h00 in the morning.”

The NEC Meeting was adjourned to next week as there are still a few outstanding matters that have to be resolved before the SAFA Congress.

“We are going to appoint new auditors, and we have the Finance Committee and the Technical Committee reports to be presented. These are Committee reports that we’ve left for next week. There are too many issues that we had to deal with. But, as you could see, all the people remained until the end of the meeting (this morning). It was adjourned, and now we’ll have to deal with some of the outstanding Committee reports.

“We have a lot of Committees – the competitions Committees will report, the Membership Affairs will report, and so on. These matters are important. You know, on the question of the Technical Committee, we have to make certain appointments. We have to make sure that everything is okay with our teams, and that’s where the focus is. I think we are tired (after the long session), but we are happy.”

The SAFA President is traveling to the United States of America this weekend where he will try to catch some Club World Cup matches in-between his engagements. He said the SAFA NEC wished South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns well in the tournament.

Dr Jordaan said while the discussions were robust, passionate and engaging, he was happy that the Members emerged with a common goal.

“Nobody is suspended, and nobody is to step aside. All of those matters were dealt with and concluded. So, we came in together, united, we left together and I’m happy.”

South African Football: SuperSport United is consistently competitive in both domestic and continental tournaments.
