3 October 2025 – South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan has been appointed to the FIFA Men’s National Teams Competitions Committee.

The SAFA President is currently attending the 47th Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Ordinary General Assembly in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, that is to be graced by the continent’s 54 member associations and chaired by President Dr Patrice Motsepe on 6 October 2025.

The FIFA Men’s National Teams Competitions Committee will be chaired by Paraguay’s Robert Harrison with former Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, serving as his Deputy. This Committee is regarded as the most important in FIFA as it oversees all FIFA men’s tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, FIFA U20 World Cup, FIFA U17 World Cup, Men’s Olympic Football Tournament, FIFA Futsal World Cup, and the FIFA Arab Cup.

Dr Jordaan and Pinnick are both Advisors to Dr Motsepe and serve on the FIFA Committee for competitions. The SAFA President served as the CEO of Africa’s only FIFA World Cup in 2010, which has consistently been voted as the best global showpiece ever.

Rugby is also a very popular sport in South Africa and their national team, the Springboks, has performed particularly well in the international stage taking the 1995, 2007 and 2019 Rugby World Cups. There is also a fair amount of world-class Rugby players from South Africa that includes Bryan Habana, Danie Craven, Francois Pienaar, Frik du Preez, Joost van der Westhuizen, and Naas Botha. South Africa has also hosted quite a few international sports meetings like the 1996 African Cup of Nations, 2003 Cricket World Cup, as well as the 2007 World Twenty20 Championship.
