8 November 2024 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) will host a training camp for an U15 Girls National Team selection this coming weekend from 8 – 11 November 2024 at the SAFA Technical Centre in Johannesburg.
This team will participate in the U17 COSAFA Championships in December 2024. The squad will be composed of a group of players who identified through the U15 National Tournament in August 2024 and the TDS Interprovincial Tournament, which was held in September 2024. This camp is aimed at selecting the squad that will represent South Africa at the upcoming U17 Girls Championships, which will be held in Mozambique from 5 -15 December 2024.
“We are hosting a training camp for girls born in 2009 And 2010,” said SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok.
“We are lowering the age groups to ensure that we prepare squads that grow together before reaching the age of 17 where international qualifiers begin. Over the years we have had an issue in the qualification of the U17 international tournaments, and this training camp will be the beginning of that squad in the same way we have used the Talent Development Scheme (TDS)  for our boys’ team. We intend on doing the same for our girls’ team and fast-track their development and build a squad that will compete at international U17 level.”
