Johannesburg – South Africans planning a household or office move can now estimate the size of their move before contacting a removal company. The South African Furniture Removals Alliance (SAFRA) has launched a free online Furniture Volume Calculator, helping consumers prepare detailed inventories and obtain more accurate furniture removal quotes.

The new tool addresses a common challenge when organising a move: knowing how much space furniture, appliances, boxes and other belongings will occupy during transportation.

“We introduced the free Furniture Volume Calculator to make it easier for South Africans to estimate the size of their move and get competitive quotes from furniture removal companies. By allowing customers to complete their inventories online, we’re also helping removal companies work with more accurate information when preparing their quotes,” explains a SAFRA spokesperson.

By calculating the estimated volume of a move in cubic metres, users can provide removal companies with information that helps them assess truck requirements and prepare quotations.

The free Furniture Volume Calculator is available to anyone planning a residential or office relocation in South Africa.

Why Moving Volume Matters When Requesting Quotes

Furniture removal costs depend on several factors. Here we include distance, accessibility, packing requirements and the amount of space needed to transport belongings.

However, many people requesting quotes struggle to describe the quantity and size of the items they need moved.

A two-bedroom home, for example, could contain considerably more furniture than a larger property with minimal furnishings. As a result, relying only on the number of rooms may give removal companies an incomplete picture. An accurate inventory helps identify the furniture and household goods requiring transportation, allowing moving companies to assess the job before providing a quotation.

It also reduces the likelihood of important items being overlooked during the initial planning process.

How the Free SAFRA Furniture Volume Calculator Works

SAFRA has designed the calculator to simplify moving preparations, allowing users to create a detailed inventory without needing specialist knowledge of furniture measurements.

The process involves three straightforward steps:

  1. Select your move type: Choose between a household or office move to begin preparing your inventory.
  2. Add your furniture and belongings: Select furniture, appliances, boxes and other items. The calculator estimates the total moving volume in cubic metres and cubic feet. Users can also add custom items, dimensions and special instructions.
  3. Receive your PDF inventory and request quotes: Once completed, the system emails users a downloadable PDF inventory and a link to their calculation. They can then use this information to request 4–6 moving quotes from furniture removal companies.

A useful feature is the downloadable PDF inventory, which gives customers a convenient record of everything they intend to move. They can review their list, identify overlooked items and share the document with removal companies when requesting quotations.

The free Furniture Volume Calculator further helps people estimate their moving requirements before committing to a relocation date.

From Moving Inventory to Competitive Removal Quotes

SAFRA’s established online quote-request service connects consumers with furniture removal companies operating throughout South Africa. Once a customer submits a quote request, the platform notifies relevant service providers. Available removal companies can then contact the customer directly, discuss specific moving requirements and prepare quotations based on the information provided.

This allows consumers to compare offers, evaluate available services and choose a removal company that meets their needs and budget. For those unfamiliar with the process, SAFRA provides a step-by-step guide explaining how its moving quote service works, from submitting a request to receiving quotations.

Building on 15 Years of Connecting South Africans with Movers

Established in 2011, SAFRA has developed an extensive network of furniture removal service providers throughout South Africa.

According to live figures published on its website, the platform has recorded more than 136,000 customer quote requests and 479,000 quotations submitted by moving companies.

The introduction of the Furniture Volume Calculator represents another step towards making the moving quotation process more accessible and informative. By helping customers understand the size of their move before requesting quotations, SAFRA aims to improve the information available to both consumers and removal companies.

About SAFRA
