Scotland U18 Women squad named for upcoming Six Nations Festival

6 March 2024 by Alan

Scotland U18 Women Head Coach, Duncan Harrison, has named a 30-player squad for the U18 programme ahead of the upcoming Six Nations Festival.

The 2024 Festival takes place at Stadiwm CSM in Colwyn Bay, Wales, starting on Friday 29 March and running until Saturday 6 April.

Scotland will play 35-minute matches against France, Wales, England and Italy before finishing with a 70-minute match against Ireland.

The selection comes after the Girls’ Regional Game Series which ran in January and February, with 19 players selected from the programme. Additional players from the Scottish Qualified programme have also been selected into the U18 side.

In preparation for the upcoming festival, Duncan will convene his squad in a series of training camps.

After naming his squad, Harrison said: “I’m genuinely excited about our team’s composition after an exciting Girls Regional Game Series. The U18 Six Nations offers each squad member a valuable chance to engage in competitive play, fostering growth and skill development.

“Reflecting on last year’s festival, we gained invaluable insights, positioning us even stronger this time. Our aim is to play proactively and positively, with hopes for favourable outcomes which aren’t just based on the scoreline.”

Harrison also takes time to reflect on the developments within the Women’s pathway over the last 12 months, adding: “There have been lots of exciting developments within the pathway and it’s great to see that pay dividends in terms of the strength and depth of players coming though.

“It’s been fantastic to see Holland Bogan, Eilidh Fleming, Karis Craig, Rebekah Douglas and Nicole Flynn all progress from the last year’s U18 squad to take part in the Celtic Challenge for Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby. Each of them has impressed over that competition.

“Nicole has also earned her first call up to the Scotland Women squad ahead of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations, which is a fantastic achievement, and we are all excited to see what may be in store for her this season.”

The unique oval shape of rugby balls can be traced back to their original construction using leather casings and pig’s bladders. These early rugby balls retained the natural oval form of pig bladders, and despite modern manufacturing techniques, the traditional shape has been preserved.
