Seligmann joins SRL Board

14 July 2025 by Guest

Leading UK performance director Steven Seligmann has been appointed to the Scottish Rugby Limited Board.

Steven brings extensive leadership experience and in-depth understanding of working in an integrated way at board, executive and senior leadership level across high-performance sport.

His career to date has seen him working in high performance roles across team sports, professional sport, Olympic and Paralympic teams and he brings a proven track record of working in partnership with, and leading complex performance environments and professional organisations.

He has been the Performance Director at British Shooting since 2014, where he has overseen medal winning success across three Olympic and Paralympic cycles, most recently achieving a gold and silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Prior to that he spent a decade in cricket with high performance, talent development and coaching roles firstly with Cricket Scotland and for seven years, the England & Wales Cricket Board.

Steven is also an independent non-executive director with GB Snowsports and Deputy Chair of the UK Sport Performance Director Forum Strategic Steering Group.

Steven attended Banchory Academy in Aberdeenshire and played youth rugby at Aboyne RFC. He studied at the University of Edinburgh before completing a post grad diploma at Napier University Business School.

He joins as the second of the Scottish Rugby Union Board’s nominated Independent Non-Executive Directors, following former SP Energy Networks CEO Frank Mitchell’s appointment in December 2024.

Speaking on his appointment, Steven said: “I am pleased to be joining the Scottish Rugby Limited Board at what is an exciting moment in the sport. I was attracted to the opportunity as there appears to be a genuine transformative approach being undertaken to enable Scottish Rugby to build on its success and reach new heights.

“I look forward to working with the SRL Board to support Scottish Rugby’s aspirations from growing the community game to achieving success with the national women and men’s teams. I enjoy working with organisations in this phase of their ambition and feel my experience across a broad range of high-performance sport could add value.”

Chair of the Scottish Rugby Limited Board, John McGuigan said: “We are delighted to welcome Steven to the SRL board. He has extensive experience in developing a high performance culture in various sporting disciplines outside of rugby. His perspective on how to identify, develop and support players at all levels and age-groups will be invaluable and will be complementary to breadth of experience we now have across the SRL board.”

Chair of the Scottish Rugby Union Board, Professor Lorne Crerar said: “The appointment of Steven has been the culmination of a highly competitive process involving a number of exceptionally well qualified candidates. We are delighted to have appointed Steven, who we and our colleagues on the SRL Board believe, will be a significant contributor in ensuring the success and continued progression of Scottish Rugby.”
