SETA Boards Stacked With Cadres, Again

29 October 2025 by Guest

Dear Editor

Last night, Minister Buti Manamela made public the list of his new Board Members appointed to oversee the SETAs.

This publication came 28 days after their appointment; a month wherein Minister Manamela concealed the names for no apparent reason at the time.

Now that the names have been released, the reason he kept them hidden is clear: The Boards have been stacked with ANC cadres, once again.

Former Minister Nobuhle Nkabane lost her job after she appointed several senior ANC cadres to the SETA boards. Manamela has not not learned from Nkabane’s lesson. He is the same, if not worse.

It appears that ANC cadres on the new SETA Boards include:

  • A former ANC Mayor from KwaZulu Natal,
  • Members of an ANC Provincial Executive Committees,
  • Members of ANC Youth League executives,
  • Members of ANC Regional Executive Committees,
  • ANC Ward Councillor candidates.

The SETAs are an over R20-billion annual investment from government, and we cannot allow them to continue being ANC candy shops.

The DA will continue to probe this matter, and will announce further action shortly.

Regards

Karabo Khakhau MP
DA Deputy Spokesperson on Higher Education
