Johannesburg, 16 January 2025 – Shell Downstream South Africa has announced the recipients for their national bursary programme designed to support scholars from underprivileged backgrounds.

26 STEM newly selected Shell bursarsars are from the following provinces:

  • Eastern Cape (2)
  • Limpopo(2)
  • KwaZulu Natal –(7), 1 of the 7 is in the KZN national top learners
  • Northwest- (4)
  • Western Cape – (4)
  • Gauteng –(6)
  • Free-State-(1)

Aluwani Museisi, Shell Downstream South Africa’s Country Chair, says the company has contributed more than R15 million in the 2025 bursary programme, demonstrating the commitment to nation building by making meaningful impact in South African communities.

“I would like to personally congratulate all the matriculants and in particular, the Shell recipients, their hard work and dedication has yielded positive results for them. As an organisation, we are committed to doing what we can, to enhance or change the education landscape of South Africa. We truly believe in investing back into the communities in which we operate and what better way than assisting learners with potential to further their studies, with a bursary programme,” says Museisi.

These scholars will be supported with tuition fees, accommodation fees books, laptop in the first year, monthly stipend, and other necessary support to ensure they are well equipped to succeed in their varsity life.

Effective immediately, Shell will be assisting the bursars with finalising university registration, securing safe accommodation, individual needs and status analysis.

“We look forward to journeying with our future leaders and being launch pad to a future that will not only benefit them but also be a catalyst for South Africa’s growth and development” Museisi concludes.
