Sosibo ready to build on breakthrough 2026 season at Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K

18 August 2026 by Guest

With her sights set on a top-5 finish at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K on Sunday, 23 August 2026, Cacisile Sosibo will be looking to build on an excellent 2026 season and her impressive sixth-place finish at last month’s Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K.

The 28-year-old Boxer Athletics Club top runner has enjoyed the best 10km season of her career, improving her personal best to 32:16 at the Durban leg of the SPAR Women’s Grand Prix in June, while also dipping under 32:45 three times this season. Her 32:36 at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K saw her finish sixth in a strong international field and provided a significant confidence boost ahead of the Tshwane leg of the Series.

Sosibo further underlined her consistency on Sunday, 16 August, when she clocked 34:01 to finish third at the Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg. The performance came less than 24 hours after she had won the senior women’s 10km title at the Central Gauteng Cross Country Championships, highlighting the depth of her current form.

“Durban was amazing for me this year. I ran a PB at SPAR and got a top-six finish at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, which gave me a big confidence boost,” said the KZN native, who is now based in Soweto.

Sosibo’s recent form is a welcome return to the kind of performances that saw her finish tenth in the 21km race at the 2023 World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia, where she clocked a personal best 1:09:31 against the best in the world.

Coached by legendary mentor Michael ‘Sponge’ Seme, who has also guided the career of four-time Olympian Stephen Mokoka, Sosibo believes consistency in her training has been the key to her resurgence.

“Things have been going well for me this year. I feel like the Cacisile who was competing back in 2023. I’m coming back slowly but surely.”

Now she will turn her attention to the notoriously hilly Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K, where she will look to use her strength on the climbs to challenge for another strong finish.

“Tshwane is a tougher course with hills at altitude, so I’m not expecting a PB. My target is to race smart and run with the lead pack for as long as possible.”

With Sosibo enjoying one of the strongest seasons of her career, Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports is excited to see what she can produce in Tshwane:

“Cacisile’s 2026 season has been hugely encouraging, and her sixth-place finish in Durban showed that she can compete with a strong international field,” says Meyer. “We’re looking forward to seeing her build on that performance in Tshwane.”
