South Africans have grown accustomed to a political culture where appointments are based on loyalty, factionalism and political patronage, instead of competence. For decades, our country has paid a heavy price for a system that rewards allegiance over basic governance.
The consequences are visible in collapsing municipalities, failing infrastructure, widespread corruption and declining public confidence in government.
ActionSA was founded to resist that culture. We believe that the future of South Africa depends on attracting the best people to public service. We are building a movement that values competence above political pedigree and service above self-interest.
As ActionSA National Chairperson Michael Beaumont recently said following the appointment of Ayanda Allie on X: “Just like Ayanda Allie, we encourage South Africans to leave the political homes that have let them down and rally behind ActionSA to fix their municipalities.”
That statement captures exactly what our movement represents. ActionSA is not asking South Africans to forget their political journeys. We are inviting them to become part of a new journey that places residents ahead of political parties, and results above rhetoric.
Our appointments and deployments reflect this ethos. The appointment of Ayanda Allie and Kwena Molekwa represents the next generation of public service leaders who embody our commitment to strengthening civil service, politics and communication.
The same ethos has guided the announcement of ActionSA’s Mayoral Candidates across our municipalities and MMC candidates in Johannesburg. Zandile Dabula’s programme focusing on illegal occupation of RDP homes by foreign nationals illustrates a proactive approach to addressing residents’ concerns.
Politics should never become a closed club. South Africa needs parties willing to identify talent wherever it exists. We should never reject capable individuals simply because they once belonged to another political party or built careers outside politics.
What is encouraging is that independent voices acknowledge ActionSA as the only credible and viable alternative to secure a better life for all. When respected commentators such as Penuel Mlotshwa and Tumelo Masha publicly express confidence in ActionSA, it reflects that more South Africans are judging parties by their ideas and ability to govern.
As we approach the Local Government Elections, South Africans have a choice. They can continue rewarding the politics of patronage, or they can support leaders who believe that integrity, competence and accountability should be the only qualifications that matter.
