South Africa one of the most expensive places to mine Bitcoin in the world | SA News


A new analysis using the latest data from the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index and global non-household electricity prices shows that mining Bitcoin is not commercially viable in South Africa.

Trading platform advisory BestBrokers conducted the analysis, finding that Bitcoin mining only made financial sense in a handful of countries.

These include Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Norway, where the energy to produce 1 bitcoin (BTC) costs less than the price of the cryptocurrency itself.
