Springboks bring the Rugby World Cup home again!

29 October 2023 by Guest

Dear Editor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) joins the rest of South Africa in extending our joyful congratulations to the Springboks for winning the 2023 rugby World Cup for a record fourth time. Captain Siya Kolisi and his band of Champions have once again inspired a nation through this remarkable achievement and lifted the spirit of Boks supporters across the world.

As the first test rugby nation to win the Web Ellis trophy back to back, the Boks have cemented South Africa’s position as the undisputed leader in world rugby. The tenacity and resilience of Boks have captivated the world, from the very first game of the tournament to the thrilling final at the State de France.

Every single world cup that the Springboks have won since their first Web Ellis trophy in 1995, has ushered fresh hope and reminded South Africans of the immense potential that our country holds. The Boks are a constant reminder that if we commit to hard work and dedication, we can accomplish great and marvelous exploits that transcend our borders.

This was more than a rugby world cup victory for millions of South Africans but a window of what it possible when we all come together and work towards a common goal.

The Bok victory has inspired the next generation of rugby players who will continue to carry the flame of our supremacy as an elite rugby nation. We also extend our congratulations to the coaching staff, who through their dedication, inspired the Boks to remain resolute and focused on being the best on the world stage.

This momentous achievement will forever be one of South Africa’s shining examples of sportsmanship and excellence. We applaud the Boks for their resilience and willingness to carry the hopes and aspirations of millions of South Africans who cheered them on to lift one of the greatest sport prizes on earth.

Regards

Tsepo Mhlongo MP
DA Shadow Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture

A freak accident ended the life of a promising young batsman from India in 2015. Ankit Keshri was captain of the Bengal U-19 team. Keshri collided at full-force with teammate Sourav Mondal when they both ran to catch the ball. Although he was hospitalized after the incident, he later died of a heart attack during treatment.
