A season of six world-class theatrical productions, filmed live from theatres in London, are currently being screened at select Ster-Kinekor and Cinema Nouveau theatres until November this year. Cinema audiences and theatre lovers alike will be treated to world-class productions from some of Britain’s most innovative playwrights, directors, actors, and stagings, on the big screen as part of the NT (National Theatre) Live series.

“With NT Live productions showing on our cinema screens, local audiences get the opportunity to experience some of the best of British theatre in a theatre-like setting, as an extension of the live production’s audience. It is wonderful that we can show these world-class productions from the UK on our screens for audiences who enjoy and appreciate great theatre,” says Lynne Wylie, chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.

The next production is National Theatre Live’s acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire, a filmed version of the Young Vic’s record-breaking stage production. Directed by Benedict Andrews, it stars Gillian Anderson as Blanche DuBois, Ben Foster as Stanley Kowalski, and Vanessa Kirby as Stella. The production will screen on 30 and 31 May and 02 June.

As Blanche’s fragile world crumbles, she turns to her sister Stella for solace. But, her downward spiral brings her face to face with the brutal, unforgiving Stanley Kowalski. From visionary director Benedict Andrews, this acclaimed production was filmed live during a sold-out run at the Young Vic Theatre in 2014. It was one of the fastest-selling productions in the Young Vic’s history, and received critical acclaim and 5-star reviews. It remains one of NT Live’s most popular titles and has been watched by 1.2 million people worldwide.

The line-up of other NT Live theatre productions due for release on Ster-Kinekor screens over the next few months include: Inter Alia (screening on 25, 26 and 28 July); The Fifth Step (releasing on 05, 06 and 08 September); Frankenstein (releasing on 31 October, 01 and 03 November); and finally, The Audience (releasing on 21, 22 and 24 November).

Don’t miss the opportunity to see these world-class theatre productions. Bookings are now open, and screenings are limited. Each of the NT Live productions will be shown at Ster-Kinekor Rosebank Nouveau and Cresta in Johannesburg, Ster-Kinekor Brooklyn in Pretoria, Watercrest in Hillcrest, KZN, and at Ster-Kinekor V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The productions also screen at Ster-Kinekor Maerua Mall in Windhoek, Namibia. Loyalty deals apply to ticket prices, including half-price tickets on Tuesdays.
