Team South Africa’s sterling performance at Special Olympics

27 June 2023 by Guest

Dear Editor

The DA extends its heartfelt congratulations to each member of Team South Africa for their remarkable achievements and outstanding performance at the recent Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. Team South Africa brought no less than 49 medals home – 22 gold, 20 silver and 7 bronze medals across sporting codes.

Their dedication, skill, and unwavering spirit have brought immense pride and joy to our country.

The medals that our athletes have won are a testament to their hard work, determination, and perseverance. Their triumphs on the global stage have not only showcased their individual talent but have also highlighted the immense potential of our nation in the field of sports.

The DA calls upon the Department of Sports, Art and Culture to prioritise the growth and advancement of our sportsmen and women. The success of Team South Africa at international events demonstrates the immense talent we possess in various sporting disciplines. It is crucial that we continue to invest in the development of our athletes, providing them with the necessary resources, training facilities, and support systems to further excel on the global stage.

By investing in the growth and advancement of our sportsmen and women, we not only contribute to their individual success but also foster a culture of wellness, competition, and national pride. Supporting our athletes not only promotes physical health but also encourages unity, national cohesion, and social development.

Regards

Tsepo Mhlongo MP
DA Shadow Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture
