The 13th Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture, initiated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and organized by the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, is set to take on an exciting and different conversational format this year – with philanthropist, businesswoman and advocate for women and girls, Melinda French Gates. This annual lecture, an embodiment of promoting peace, healing, and courageous leadership, is slated to be a unique and inclusive gathering at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on November 17, 2023.

Unlocking Women’s Power for Peace and Prosperity is the central theme of this year’s Peace Lecture, and it encompasses the belief that women’s leadership and empowerment is central in building more societies that flourish. This year’s format is a fireside chat which will see an engaging and inclusive dialogue between Melinda French Gates and Global Moderator Nozipho Tshabalala. Together, they will explore the transformative potential of women in society, how they impact their families, communities, and cultures, and the path to peace and prosperity. The conversation will be enriched by Dr. Athambile Masola’s insights, who will serve as the respondent.

Additionally this year the Foundation wants to honour its co-founder Mrs. Leah Tutu, who was also an anti-apartheid activist, on her 90th birthday, Alongside the fireside chat, an exhibition will open, highlighting the extraordinary stories of women who played pivotal roles in the anti-apartheid struggle, focusing on 90 notable narratives. The 13th Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture is set to be an inclusive gathering of women from diverse backgrounds, offering a platform to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of women’s leadership both globally and within our communities.

Date: November 17, 2023
Time: 18:30 for 19:30
Location: Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) Theme: Unlocking Women’s Power for
Peace and Prosperity

Tickets are free and can be booked on Quicket. The lecture can be streamed on tutu.org.za
