The Arts & Culture Trust Invites Applications For Four Board Portfolios

4 April 2024 by Guest

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT), South Africa’s premier independent development, art capacitator, and art investment organisation, is excited to announce an open call for applications to fill three essential positions on its Board of Trustees. The application process commences on 2 April 2024 and closes on 30 April 2024.

ACT is seeking qualified candidates to serve in the following portfolios:

  • Chartered Accountant: Advise on capital management, growth initiatives, and strategic financial decision making.
  • Marketing/Person of Influence: Tasked with advising on marketing strategies, connecting marketing opportunities, and leveraging personal influence for the benefit of ACT’s portfolio.
  • Business Strategist: Actively involved in overseeing strategy formulation, business management, and identification of new opportunities in line with the ACT Strategy.
  • Fundraiser: Actively seek funding and partnership opportunities in line with the Trust’s strategy with a particular focus on growing the Trust capital for future sustainability

Board members will serve a maximum of two terms, with each term spanning three years. The ACT Board convenes four times annually, offering flexibility for board members located anywhere in South Africa. The time commitment requires the physical attendance of two Trustees meetings per annum and an additional two Committee Meetings (usually conducted online) as per assigned committee/s. A board member may serve on more than one but no more than two committees simultaneously. There may from time to time be ad hoc meetings as prearranged with the ACT Exco.

Jessica Denyschen, CEO of ACT, emphasizes the crucial role board members play in advancing the organisation’s mission. ‘As we endeavour to bolster the arts sector, continuing ACT’s 30-year legacy, we seek individuals who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also deeply passionate about contributing to our industry,’ says Denyschen. ‘New board members will undergo a mentorship period as well as board training to ensure a seamless transition and continuity in our efforts to empower the arts community.’

Successful candidates will be expected to commit to a minimum of one term with the option of extending to a second term, actively engaging in board activities such as preparation for meetings, implementation of responsibilities, and leveraging expertise and networks for the benefit of ACT. Key attributes sought in applicants include innovative and creative thinking, responsiveness, transparency, efficiency, and accountability, along with a commitment to ethical conduct and the avoidance of conflicts of interest.

Additionally, candidates with access to extensive networks and a willingness to mentor stakeholders within and outside of ACT are highly encouraged to apply.

Benefits of joining the ACT Board of Trustees include networking opportunities with industry peers and stakeholders, invitations to exclusive corporate partner and ACT hosted events, and the chance to contribute to the advancement of the arts and culture sector.

Interested individuals from across South Africa are invited to apply today by submitting a one-page motivational letter detailing their envisioned contributions to ACT and the arts sector, along with a current CV and 2 x references, to info@act.org.za with the following subject line ‘Board Application 2024.’ For inquiries, please e-mail info@act.org.za.

Applications will be accepted until 30 April 2024, with outcomes announced in mid-May 2024. Don’t miss this opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the arts and culture landscape in South Africa.
