The Hollywood Foundation Club Rugby Festival brought eight spirited teams to Witbank on 14 March 2026 for a day of high intensity rugby, camaraderie and community celebration. Supporters were treated to competitive fixtures that delivered both drama and quality rugby throughout the day.
The opening match between Bethal RC and Benoni RC was a tightly contested affair that went down to the wire. Both sides traded blows, but Bethal edged a narrow 26–25 victory with a late surge. Nigel RC followed with a dominant performance against Newcastle RC, combining strong ball retention and clinical finishing to secure a convincing 50–12 win.
Hollywoodbets Harlequins RC and White River RC were locked in an arm wrestle during the first half before the Harlequins pulled away after the break. Improved attacking execution and defensive discipline saw them claim a 27–10 victory. In the final fixture, hosts Witbank RC battled hard but struggled to match the intensity brought by Elandes RC, who finished strongly to record a 44–7 win.
Across all matches, the standard of play was competitive yet respectful, reflecting the true spirit of the festival. Players, coaches, referees and supporters upheld sportsmanship throughout, making the day as much about community as it was about results.
Vuyisile Ngobese, Public Relations Officer for the Hollywood Foundation, highlighted the broader impact of the festival. “Our support goes beyond what happens on the field. We are proud to invest in initiatives that strengthen community sport, develop talent and create meaningful opportunities, from players and coaches to the young people involved behind the scenes,” she said.
Mpumalanga Rugby Union Rugby Development Co ordinator, Chumani Booi, said the festival continues to play a vital role in growing the club game. “This festival is about more than just rugby results. It’s about giving clubs a platform to compete, connect and grow. The energy on the field and the support from the stands showed exactly why events like this are so important for the club rugby ecosystem,” he said.
The event also featured high quality live streaming. A standout element was the involvement of Hoërskool Patriot student match commentators, who brought enthusiasm and insight to the broadcast. Booi noted that the young commentators grew in confidence with each game and embraced the opportunity to learn another side of rugby, including camera work, commentary, focus, attention to detail, understanding the laws of the game and teamwork.
Booi further thanked the Hollywood Foundation, Witbank RC for hosting, the volunteers, match officials, medics, and the travelling teams and supporters who contributed to the festival’s success.
