Ahead of tomorrow’s release of the 2025/26 fourth quarter crime statistics, the DA reiterates our call for SAPS to provide complete and accurate data on gender-based violence (GBV) and crimes against children.
For months and months, ahead of every crime statistics release, the DA has repeatedly called on SAPS to include comprehensive figures on GBV and crimes against children in its official statistics. Yet these critical categories continue to be excluded or inadequately reported.
The DA has consistently warned against the exclusion of crimes committed against women and children from national crime statistics. When this information is omitted, both government and civil society are denied the ability to properly measure trends, direct resources, and implement interventions to protect vulnerable communities.
Every missing statistic represents real victims whose experiences risk being ignored. The lives and safety of women and children cannot be treated as secondary in a country facing severe levels of violent crime and abuse.
Crime statistics without visible action, arrests, successful prosecutions, and safer communities mean nothing to South Africans living in fear every day.
