Youth Month invites us to reflect on the future we are helping to build and the responsibility we share in creating opportunities for the next generation. At the Nedbank Oliver Top Empowerment Awards 2026, the SIOC Community Development Trust was named a finalist in four categories and received a Highly Commended Award for Youth Development.

As a founding member of the Trust, Anglo American Kumba Iron Ore is proud to see the achievements of the SIOC Community Development Trust recognized as it celebrates 20 years of existence. Guided by the theme, “20 Years of Impact, Trust, Building Resilient Communities,” the achievement reflects the two decades of commitment to empowering young people through education, skills development, entrepreneurship and pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

South Africa’s youth have always embodied resilience, courage and possibility. This recognition reinforces the importance of continuing to invest in opportunities that enable young people to shape their own futures and contribute to thriving communities.

I think the number one public-relations blunder Osama has made is that he lives in a cave-fortress and if there\’s one thing we\’ve learned from it\’s that you can\’t trust a guy who lives in a cave-fortress — Lex Luther, Captain Nemo, Dr. Evil. I\’m telling you the list goes on. – David Letterman
