Prepare to step back in time with 77: The FESTAC Conspiracy, the much-anticipated sequel to the award-winning 76. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, this cinematic masterpiece delves into another pivotal chapter of Nigerian history, revealing the untold truths and gripping drama surrounding the iconic 1977 World Festival of African Arts (FESTAC 77).

76 captivated audiences and critics alike with its riveting portrayal of love, loyalty, and political turmoil during Nigeria’s post-civil war era. Directed by the visionary Izu Ojukwu, the film was celebrated for its authenticity, emotional depth, and attention to historical detail.

Building on this legacy, 77: The FESTAC Conspiracy promises to take the storytelling to new heights, exploring the intricate web of conspiracies and power struggles behind Africa’s largest cultural festival.

“77: The FESTAC Conspiracy is not just a film it is a tribute to the resilience and creativity of African people. Through this film, we aim to celebrate our rich history while shedding light on the untold stories that shaped FESTAC 77,” said director Izu Ojukwu.

Featuring a powerhouse cast including Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Chidi Mokeme, and Adonijah Owiriwa who also serves as the executive producer the film immerses viewers in the vibrant yet turbulent atmosphere of 1970s Nigeria. With its rich storytelling and stunning visuals, 77 continues the tradition of using cinema as a lens to explore the cultural and political complexities of Nigeria.

“FESTAC 77 was a defining moment for Africa, uniting the continent through art and culture. This film captures that spirit while uncovering the hidden layers of drama and sacrifice behind the scenes,” shared Adonijah Owiriwa.
Reflecting on the impact of 76 and the promise of its sequel, Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO, Filmhouse Group, FilmOne Enterainment & Filmhouse Cinemas, remarked: “We are thrilled to be part of bringing 77: The FESTAC Conspiracy to audiences across the globe. While 76 brought a powerful personal and national story to light, 77 expands that lens to celebrate the unity and resilience of a continent. This is a bold step in showcasing African stories that resonate universally.”

77: The FESTAC Conspiracy movie was announced on Wednesday, 4th December 2024, in the heart of Lekki at the Imax, Film house Cinemas. The event featured a special presentation followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion with the film’s cast, crew, and representatives from FilmOne Entertainment, the official distributor. Attendees gained exclusive insight into the creative process, the historical significance of FESTAC 77, and the impact of this extraordinary story on modern African culture.

“FESTAC 77 was not just a festival; it was a cultural renaissance for Africa. As we unveil the sequel 77: The FESTAC Conspiracy, we honor the legacy of that moment and invite a new generation to rediscover the strength and beauty of our collective history.” exclaimed Prince Tonye Princewill, Executive Producer.

77: The FESTAC Conspiracy is set to come to a screen near you globally in 2025, promising to reignite interest in the legacy of FESTAC 77 and its enduring impact on African identity.

When I came back to the United States, I decided that if you could use propaganda for war, you could certainly use it for peace. And \”propaganda\” got to be a bad word because of the Germans using it, so what I did was to try and find some other words so we found the word \”councelor of public relations\”. – Edward Bernays
