Thursday, 07 May 2026: Eskom previously issued a final notice to stakeholders and the public outlining its intention to interrupt bulk electricity supply to Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, Kai !Garib Local Municipality, and Mamusa Local Municipality, effective 08 May 2026, due to the municipalities’ persistent failure to settle their electricity accounts. Eskom previously issued a final notice to stakeholders and the public outlining its intention to interrupt bulk electricity supply to Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, Kai !Garib Local Municipality, and Mamusa Local Municipality, effective 08 May 2026, due to the municipalities’ persistent failure to settle their electricity accounts. In addition, Eskom has reported that nine municipalities have since obtained council resolutions to enter into Distribution Agency Agreements.

Subsequent to this notice, a number of legal and procedural developments have taken place.

Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality has filed an urgent court application requesting the court that the impending interruption be suspended. The application will be heard on 14 May 2026. To respect the court process, Eskom will suspend interruption of supply until the matter is heard and direction is given by the court.

While Kai !Garib Local Municipality has since sent a letter to Eskom requesting the suspension of the interruption of electricity as they prepare an urgent court application which will be issued on 11 May 2026, and Eskom has agreed to suspend interruption on the basis of the proposed court application. Any failure by the Municipality to issue the court application will result in Eskom proceeding with the interruption of bulk supply at short notice.

Accordingly, stakeholders are hereby notified that the interruption of electricity to the above two municipalities has been suspended and will not commence on 08 May 2026 as previously communicated.

However, Eskom confirms that the interruption of bulk electricity supply to Mamusa Local Municipality will proceed as scheduled on 08 May 2026, in accordance with the times set out below. The interruption will affect the areas of Migdol and Schweizer Reneke villages. The Municipality has been formally notified.

Africa is on the rise -Looking for growth opportunities? – Search no further. The African continent is on the cusp of transformative growth, with blossoming entrepreneurship and plenty of opportunities for smart and simple business solutions. Africa is a 1.2bn-person market, a number expected to double over the next 30 years. The continent has been gradually transformed in the past 20 years, and if you haven’t noticed you are not alone. Generally, business leaders tends to overestimate the challenges of doing business in Africa and underestimate the size and potential on the African continent. Thereby not stating that the African markets are easy to do business in, but emphasising that they are worth the effort, and companies not engaged in African markets risk losing out on one of the 21st century’s great growth opportunities.
