The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) notes with grave concern posts circulating on social media in which gang members are purportedly threatening the lives of learners of Bridgton Secondary School in Oudtshoorn.

The Oudtshoorn Community Policing Forum (CPF) confirmed that the police are aware of the messages and that an investigation is under way.

The Freedom Front Plus implores the police to implement all relevant safety measures to protect learners and staff.

Posting and sharing such threats is extremely disturbing; it stirs up fear and uncertainty among children, parents and teachers. No child should be afraid to go to school.

The Freedom Front Plus requests that the police keep visible and appropriate security measures in place until the investigation has been concluded.

Meanwhile, parents and community members are encouraged to remain calm and not to share unverified information. Any credible information must be reported to the police immediately.

Ensuring the safety of children in schools and other learning environments should be a non-negotiable priority.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep the pressure on until their safety is guaranteed.
