Using AI Without Validation Could Become Your Most Expensive Business Mistake

Sandton: Artificial intelligence can generate reports, summaries, formulas and recommendations in seconds.

The problem is that AI can also generate mistakes in seconds.

Many business users are discovering that AI often produces answers that look professional, sound convincing and appear correct. Unfortunately, appearance and accuracy are not the same thing.

“One of the biggest risks is that people assume confidence equals correctness,” says Arnold Muscat, Director of College Africa Group.

“AI does not know whether an answer is true. It predicts what the answer should look like.”

Employees are increasingly using ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to create reports, analyse information and assist with decision-making. While these tools can save significant amounts of time, organisations still need processes to validate information before it is used.

A well-written report can still contain incorrect figures. A convincing summary can still omit critical facts. An AI-generated formula can still produce the wrong result.

That is why many organisations are investing in Advanced Excel Training alongside AI initiatives. Excel remains one of the most effective tools for validating calculations, checking assumptions and identifying anomalies.

Businesses are also investing in ChatGPT for Business programmes to help employees understand where AI adds value and where human review is still required.

Microsoft Copilot is creating similar opportunities. Used correctly, it can help employees work faster, analyse information and improve productivity. However, organisations must also ensure that data access, governance and business processes are properly managed.

“AI produces language, not truth,” says Muscat.

“The responsibility for accuracy still belongs to people.”

As a result, many organisations are combining Microsoft Copilot Training, ChatGPT for Business and Advanced Excel Training to help employees use AI effectively while maintaining accuracy and accountability.

The organisations that benefit most from AI are unlikely to be those that use it the most.

They will be the organisations that combine AI tools, Excel skills and human judgement.

AI can help people work faster.

Validation helps them work smarter.

“AI may produce the first answer,” says Muscat.

“Excel helps validate the answer. People remain responsible for the final decision.”

Since social media drives the news cycle and influences brand perception, it’s no surprise that it maintains a significant (and growing) role in the PR industry.
