VF Plus Demands Answers Regarding Tshwane’s Timberlands Housing Project

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is concerned about the serious shortcomings and mismanagement of the Timberlands project in the Tshwane Metro.

The Timberlands project is a social housing initiative by the Metro aiming to provide 607 housing units to residents who do not qualify for subsidised housing nor earn enough to qualify for home loans.

The project is part of a larger effort to address the demand for housing in Tshwane.

The Timberlands project was launched in March 2021, but so far, mismanagement, delays and a shocking lack of oversight have completely derailed the project.

More than R44 million has already been spent on legal costs related to the termination of the contract with Vharanani Properties, while the officials who played pivotal roles in the decision-making are failing to implement the measures needed to bring the project to completion.

This is a shining example of incompetence, negligence and the squandering of taxpayers’ money.

Despite these obvious problems, project leaders are not being called to account. It is unacceptable.

The Freedom Front Plus demands immediate action with regard to the following:

  1. A transparent investigation into the mismanagement and delays of the Timberlands project.
  2. Instituting steps against the officials and project leaders responsible for these failures.
  3. Implementing more stringent measures for the oversight and management of future projects.

The Metro ought to set a good example when it comes to management, and demonstrate to its residents that incompetence, negligence and financial mismanagement will not be tolerated.

The Freedom Front Plus wants to emphasise that public trust needs to be restored through ensuring accountability and using public resources wisely and fairly.

Freedom Front Plus Election Performance: In the 2019 elections, the FF Plus increased its parliamentary representation.
