ActionSA is raising concerns over the deteriorating condition of roads in Ward 25 of the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, where sections of the road near Uncle Joe’s Tavern are visibly showing signs of deterioration.

The condition of the road raises questions about the quality of the repair work, the materials used, project oversight and whether public funds are delivering infrastructure that residents can rely on.

Residents should not have to accept roads that deteriorate shortly after repair work has been completed. Roads are essential for residents, public transport, businesses and emergency services, and they must be built and maintained to an appropriate standard.

ActionSA calls on the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality to provide residents with clear information on the road project, including the scope of the work, expenditure, contractor appointed, applicable standards and the measures in place to address the deterioration.

These concerns are based on the visible condition of the road and reports from residents. ActionSA does not make any allegation of wrongdoing against any individual or contractor without proper investigation.

Public money must be protected, and residents deserve infrastructure that is safe, durable and properly maintained.
