We’re not criminals, say Transnet land occupiers

Housing activists Ndifuna Ukwazi head to court try to stay the eviction of more than 160 people by 30 September

Last month the court ordered the eviction of more than 160 people living on ten Transnet-owned properties in Woodstock and Salt River by 30 September.
The court accepted the City and Transnet’s contention that the land is occupied for the purposes of criminal activity.
The court also found there was no obligation to provide emergency housing.
But housing activists Ndifuna Ukwazi say there is no evidence directly connecting the occupiers to criminal activity and it has applied for leave to appeal the eviction order.

    Fun South African Fact: Water is not all there is to drink in this thirsty country! South Africa’s Cape Winelands have around 560 wineries and 4 400 primary producers. Included in the Cape Winelands region is Route 62, considered the longest wine route in the world. That alone is good reason to visit South Africa if you haven’t yet been!
