ActionSA Deputy President, Dr Mbahare Kekana, is undertaking a 10-day provincial visit across the North West, crisscrossing communities to assess service delivery failures, engage residents and present ActionSA’s vision for a province that works for all its people.

The tour has exposed the devastating reality of a province where, for many South Africans, the promise of democracy remains unfulfilled. Across communities, residents continue to live without the basic services, infrastructure and opportunities that should be guaranteed to every citizen. These are communities that have been forgotten by a government that has failed to deliver on the promise of a better life.

From Ratlou Local Municipality and Greater Taung Local Municipality to Tswaing, Mahikeng, Ramotshere Moiloa and Ditsobotla, one conclusion is becoming increasingly clear: the ANC has no credible plan to rescue the North West from its deepening governance and service delivery crisis.

In several communities, residents still rely on traditional hand-operated water pumps to access water, a basic necessity that should be reliably supplied through functioning municipal infrastructure.

In 2026, some residents continue to depend on donkey-drawn carts and other rudimentary forms of transport because proper roads and accessible transport infrastructure remain inadequate. These conditions are a painful indictment of a government that has had decades to improve the lives of its people.

The province’s education system is equally concerning. Schools in some communities lack the facilities and conducive learning environments necessary for children to thrive. At Thipanyana Primary School, learners are taught across two grades in a single classroom, raising serious concerns about the quality of education and the learning conditions provided to these children. Elsewhere, learners are forced to walk long distances to reach school, placing additional burdens on children and their families.

The scale of poverty across the North West is not receiving the urgency and attention it deserves. A province endowed with agricultural potential, mineral wealth, tourism opportunities, and hardworking communities has been left struggling under years of maladministration, poor planning and political failure. Its people deserve more than empty promises and political rhetoric; they deserve a government that can translate the province’s enormous potential into jobs, functioning municipalities and improved living conditions.

ActionSA believes the North West cannot afford another term of ANC mismanagement. Nor can it afford political arrangements that leave municipalities trapped in instability, compromise and endless coalition negotiations. At this critical juncture, the province needs decisive leadership, accountability and a clear mandate to implement meaningful reform.

ActionSA’s commitment is to restore competent, ethical and accountable local government. Our approach prioritises professionalising municipal administration, strengthening financial management, improving revenue collection, rooting out corruption and wasteful expenditure, and ensuring that public funds are directed towards service delivery rather than political patronage. We will champion reliable access to water and electricity, better roads and public infrastructure, improved refuse removal, safer communities and an environment that supports investment, local businesses and job creation.

We believe municipalities must be run by qualified professionals, held accountable for their performance and judged by the services they deliver to residents. Communities must no longer be forced to beg for basic necessities while those entrusted with public office fail to fulfil their responsibilities.

As the 10-day provincial tour approaches its conclusion, ActionSA will continue its engagements in Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, Ditsobotla Local Municipality and Rustenburg, taking the message of change directly to communities and calling on voters to participate in shaping a different future for the province.

ActionSA is calling on the people of the North West to give the party a decisive electoral mandate to implement its programme of reform. The province cannot afford business as usual, nor can its future be left to political compromises that fail to address the fundamental problems facing its people.

The North West deserves a new beginning. Its children deserve classrooms that inspire hope, its communities deserve clean water and decent roads, its young people deserve opportunities, and its residents deserve municipalities that work.

The choice before voters is whether to accept another generation of broken promises or to take a decisive step towards rebuilding their province. ActionSA believes the North West can rise again, but that transformation requires courage at the ballot box and a government with the mandate to act.

It is time to reclaim the North West. It is time to end the cycle of failure. It is time to give this province and its people the future they deserve. Let us reimagine what is possible and build a North West that future generations will be proud to inherit.

The future of the North West must no longer be sacrificed to the failures of the past. Vote ActionSA. Let us fix our broken municipalities.
