Water Tanker Intervention Welcomed

ActionSA’s Dr JS Moroka Mayoral Candidate, Cllr Motswaledi Rankapole, today led a delegation to Marapyane Clinic to follow up on the ongoing water crisis and other urgent service-delivery challenges affecting the facility.

The delegation included Ward 23 Councillor Candidate Tshepo Letwaba and local ActionSA structures.

The visit follows reports that the clinic has been without running water, leaving healthcare workers and patients struggling to access this essential resource. The shortage has disrupted basic activities at the facility, with patients reportedly having to source water from neighbouring households and some unable to take their medication due to the lack of water.

ActionSA welcomes the positive response from local authorities, including arrangements to deploy water tankers to provide immediate relief. However, emergency water deliveries cannot be a substitute for a reliable and sustainable water supply at a healthcare facility.

With the Local Government Elections approaching, the situation at Marapyane Clinic highlights the urgent need for accountable municipal leadership that prioritises basic services and responds decisively when communities are in need. Residents should not have to endure preventable service-delivery failures to access essential healthcare.

ActionSA will continue engaging the relevant authorities, monitoring the implementation of the proposed intervention and pushing for lasting solutions to the water and other service-delivery challenges facing communities across Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality.

Our position is clear: residents deserve a municipality that works, healthcare facilities that function, and leadership that takes responsibility. Local government must deliver on its most basic obligation to the people it serves.

Less talk, more action. Together, we can build a Dr JS Moroka Municipality that works for its people.

ActionSA Gauteng Powerhouse: Focused initially on Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane.

Fun South African Fact: Can you think of any other place in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners lived on the same street? Both Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu had houses on Vilakazi Street in Soweto.
